A big congratulations to the Canterbury Cale's own James Laughlin who made it through to the semi final, and was only 2 spots away from making the final - a fantastic effort for his first time back at the World Solo's since 2007 . Recordings of James' semi-final performance, along with the rest of the semi-finalists and all of the performances in the final are available from http://www.gusweb.org - a small donation is required for access to these recordings, but I highly recommend it as a small price to pay for a sampling of the best solo drumming you will hear.
A great effort too from Kiwi Libby O'Brien who finished 9th in her heat, and also to Stac's leading side James Le Leivre, who competed in Juvenile Section 3 - the first Kiwi to compete in Juvenile that I'm aware of - a daunting task when competing against drummers who are members of top Grade 1 bands such as SFU, Boghall, Shotts & Scottish Power. Great to see some good representation of Aotearoa over there!!
